Venturing off to the desert with singer songwriter Jenn Grauer for 11 days. New Mexico is the Land of Enchantment, Arizona is the Grand Canyon state. We're starting in Santa Fe, up to Taos, down to white sands, over to silver city, ending in Tucson with the Southwest premiere of "Chicken" in LOVE SHORTS on Friday April 26th at the Arizona International Film Festival. Jenn wrote the beautiful song "Do You Call This Love" which is featured in the film. We hope to ride horses, soak up some hot springs and get expansive. Making a playlist now.
In college I used to say maybe we should all just pick up and move to Santa Fe. I've never been there. It was just a feeling. New Mexico calling me somewhere within. Maybe the artist. D.H. Lawrence and Georgia O'Keefe spent time there creating what they wanted to create. "Curious as it may sound it was New Mexico that liberated me from the present era of civilization."— D.H. Lawrence.
In Tucson we will be staying at the famous historic Hotel Congress. Bhagavan Das will be performing in town who i've been trying to see for a couple of years now. Last time I was here was for my first film "Veronika's Birthday." It won Special Recognition for Direction and Performance. Arizona International Film Festival has been very supportive of my filmmaking of which I am grateful. They have screened all three of my short films. Nine years later I venture back. I am doing a radio interview on KCXI. Festival in the Schools invited me to talk to a public school honors lit and drama class about acting and filmmaking. Wish us luck. Heading towards the flow. Let the inspiration find me. And when it does let me see it.
CHICKEN returns home to screen at the Rincon International Film Festival in Puerto Rico April 12th at 2:10pm at Villa Cofresi. We shot the film at Villa Orleans in Rincon, PR summer of 2011. Luis
Ortiz and his son Tsunami Ortiz will be representing the film and speaking about the
behind the scenes process. CHICKEN TRAILER
My acting experience thus far has been in film and TV. Now I am taking the stage for a small production of "The Vagina Monologues" by Eve Ensler to benefit V-day 2013 (Violence against Women). It's a very funny beautiful heart-wrenching play. I have been in intensive rehearsal for the past two weeks with Director Christa Mountain (Actor's Studio). I sent her My Beautiful Xmas P video holiday card and she was inspired. Long story short someone dropped out, so I dropped in. I had also emailed Eve Ensler the My Beautiful Xmas P video holiday card. She wrote back the morning after our first read through, "i love your pussy ornament and thank you for sending the video. hope you are one billion rising with us." By this point I was!
We are using sense memory and method to tell the stories of these amazing women. It's been extremely challenging but I am learning a lot. We have a very talented cast and director. It's been fun to work with the Actor's Studio graduate students. I've been so nervous I only now have enough nerve to post this!
We are The Goddess Project. Our symbol is the phoenix, the mythological bird that is reborn and rises from the ashes of destruction. Our place is Hell's Kitchen. The theater is even shaped like a Vagina. We are the kicking off the movement Friday February 1st at 8pm and then two shows Saturday 2/2 at 7:30pm and 10pm. It's a great cause. 90% goes to Women in Need (a charity for Homeless woman and children in NYC)...10% goes to V-day. If you feel moved and would like some great laughs, I would love for you to come see us! To get tickets ahead of time http://tvmhellskitchen.ticketleap.com/tvm/
I am rising because I am tired of falling. Jessica Sue
One Billion Risingis Eve Ensler's movement in February to end Violence Against Women. On February 14th, 2013, V-Day's 15th Anniversary, we are inviting one billion women and those who love them to walk out, DANCE, RISE UP, AND DEMAND an end to this violence. One Billion Rising is a promise that we will rise up with women and men worldwide to say, "Enough! The violence ends now."
